Size guide
Choosing the right size of your backdrop is important for achieving the best composition and the best results. If you hesitate which size of backdrop to choose when ordering, you can refer to our size guide to help you make the best choice based on your specific photography needs.
Please note that in our online store, the first dimension refers to the width and the second dimension refers to the height. For example, a backdrop with the size 1.50m x 1.00m means 1.50m in width and 1.00m in height.
When choosing the size of your backdrop take into consideration several factors.
The size of your studio
Your studio is the first thing you have to measure – ceiling height, width and depth. All of these measures are important to fit.
Make sure there will be enough space between your backdrop and your subject, at least 50cm and more. This will create depth in your photo, making it look more realistic.
Consider the space you need between you and the subject in order to get the results you are aiming for.
Your studio must have enough room to accommodate both the backdrop and the lighting setup.
Size of your subject, full body or waist-up
Be aware of the size of your subject, whether itβs a child or an adult. Determine if you will be photographing it full-length, in a half-body portrait, or seated. Consider the situation and the final composition.
If you plan to shoot full-length, ensure enough distance between you and the subject and take into account your camera lens. Decide whether you will use a sweep backdrop or a standard one. Keep in mind that even some of our standard backdrops are tall enough to be sweeped if needed.
Number of your subjects
How many people would be in the photo is crucial for deciding the size of the backdrop. Small and medium size backdrops are ideal for one person shots – headshots, half-body portraits, toddlers, newborns and kids photography.
Large and extra large backdrops are ideal for full-body portraits, group shots, family portraits, large group photos, wide-angle shots, and event photography.
Final composition
Make allowances for any additional setting of the scene and whether you will be using extra props. Special scenes backdrops usually require larger sizes due to the scenes themselves, regardless of the number of people in the photo.
